Roy) et Sainte-Marie (Notre-Dame Est) en direction du quai de Longueuil pour aller chercher 17 wagons. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Malheureusement, la locomotive ayant cinq personnes \u00e0 son bord ne s&rsquo;y rendra jamais. \u00c0 environ 274 m\u00e8tres, sur le chemin de fer install\u00e9 sur la glace, la locomotive d\u00e9raille suite \u00e0 l&rsquo;affaissement sous un des c\u00f4t\u00e9s du chemin temporaire. Au moment o\u00f9 la seule fa\u00e7on de traverser le Saint-Laurent est le pont Victoria inaugur\u00e9 en 1860. Nous sommes en 1880 et le Canadien Pacifique vient d\u2019inaugurer sa gare de triage Hochelaga, mais la Compagnie du Grand tronc est propri\u00e9taire de Victoria et demande des frais importants aux diff\u00e9rentes compagnies ferroviaires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> C\u2019est \u00e0 ce moment que Louis-Ad\u00e9lard S\u00e9n\u00e9cal, surintendant g\u00e9n\u00e9ral de la Qu\u00e9bec, Montr\u00e9al, Ottawa &amp; Occidental Railway (Q.M.O &amp; O) nouveau acqu\u00e9reur de la d\u00e9funte Longueuil Railway, a la brillante id\u00e9e d\u2019utiliser le fleuve suffisamment gel\u00e9 pour y installer 3km de rails et y faire passer un train de janvier \u00e0 avril. Le 31 janvier 1880 en pr\u00e9sence du premier ministre du Qu\u00e9bec, Joseph-Adolphe Chapleau, le train fait la premi\u00e8re travers\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-full wp-image-2196\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/proposmontreal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/William_notman.jpg\" alt=\"Haut: Gravure montrant le Photographe William Notman prenant un clich\u00e9 du train sur la glace. Si vous pensez que des reportages clich\u00e9s de TF1 sont comiques aujourd\u2019hui, imaginez les journalistes londoniens ou parisiens venant faire un reportage sur ce lien de glace sur le grand Saint-Laurent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Suite \u00e0 l\u2019incident du 5 janvier, on r\u00e9cup\u00e9ra la locomotive, d\u00e9pla\u00e7a les rails et le service repris que deux jours plus tard avec une nouvelle locomotive de type \u00ab calumet \u00bb plus petite et donc, plus l\u00e9g\u00e8re que les 69 000 livres du train original. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En 1882, le CP fait l\u2019acquisition de la Q.M.O &amp; O des mains du gouvernement du Qu\u00e9bec et d\u00fb \u00e0 un hiver doux, le train utilisa le lien que du 4 f\u00e9vrier au 4 mars. En 1883, du 15 janvier au 3 avril, la South Eastern Railway est responsable alors du lien entre les deux rives, mais \u00e0 son tour, cette derni\u00e8re fut achet\u00e9e par le Canadien Pacifique qui mit fin au projet de lien glac\u00e9.
